Still scares me. The top of the core and the tubes that go through the firewall are plastic. Might be OK....I'd want to talk to someone else who had done it.

I'm scared of it as well. I just use extremely hot water.

If after several flushes your heat is still intermittent its probably time to replace the core.

The part its self is rather inexpensive if you got with aftermarket but the removal/install is where people gripe. It's not complicated, rather just tedious.

We have heater cores below.

Click HERE to order or for more information.

Let me know if you have any questions.

I'm gonna flush it again as a temporary measure then I'm gonna flush the coolant system in the hopes that it is fixed permanently.

It's gonna take an act of god for me to drop $2,000 to fix the heater core in a $5k car.

Just do it yourself! It's as easy as an oil change! Shouldn't take more than 30 minutes.

I have the feeling a new heater core would be clogged about as fast as the one you have now. You have too much junk floating around in your cooling system. That's what you have to attack.

exactly like mtroxel said, if you don't solve the actual problem here, the problem being coolant, your just going to be replacing it again in the future along with the rest of the cooling system,.

Figured I would update this post:

On that third flush, I used CLR and near boiling water. Managed to get a lot more crud out than before. I took it to Jiffy Lube and had them do a full flush on it. Since September of 2012, it has worked flawlessly.

You said you saw peanut butter looking stuff come out didn't you? Had to be stop-leak. Now that Blomberg is out of office in NY, he should move from 64 ounce soda to stop-leak. That stuff should be banned!

Could have been but there's no leak at the moment.
