Front ed noice possibly wheel bearing?
This is on a 99 A4 Quattro 144K miles. I had 19" rims on the car and started to notice a sound coming from the passenger side while driving. I put the stockers back on and it still making the sound, even more noticable now. Its not so apparent when driving in low speeds 5-20mph, but anything above that you can hear a distinct sound over the magnaflow muffler. Its got a sound as if the tire was bouncing up and down...rum rum rumrum rurm rumm rum....or womp womp womp womp. Seems to go along with the speed/rpms.
I have put the tire up in the air and grapped the tire top and bottom and there is no play. If you grab the tires on the side (9 and 3 oclock there is little play. Driver side was the same. I compared it.
If your dirving in a straight line and you hold/turn the wheel the wheel to the right (same side noice is coming from) the sound will go away, but as soon as you straighten the wheel out it comes back. Same thing when you making on rap right turns the sound kind of goes away.
I'm thinking it's the wheel bearing?
How could I check for rotor or caliper being bad?
I certainly just dont want to start replacing things. I'd rather just fix what needs to be.
Thoughts suggestion?
Thanks
ps: I took the tire off and grabbed the upper tierod(steering) and there was movement. I also grapped the axle and there was very very very little in/out movement. again very little the drive side was rock solid though. I wouldn't think the axle would make that sound though unless it was bent as that's the kind of sound it makes like something is bent or out of shape.

Certainly sounds like the wheel bearing.... I would also check whether it could be the drive shaft/CV joints (inner/outer), however you have already given this a go..... If it was the CV's then the noise would be more of a clicking and more prominent when you doing hard turnings
You maybe able to run your fingers along the disk face to see whether there is any wrapping?? Which may cause a similar sound... Should be able to feel slight rises and depressions along the disk face.
I take it that you have also checked all the suspension links are in good nic??
