I paid like $20 for mine - not much less, but avoided having to go to the dealership.

Well, bad news. Just filled the car again after replacing the fuel filter and my mpg has plummeted from 33.3 to 28.7. L/100km is up from 8.5 to 9.9.

Now I expected it to be slightly worse due to some inefficient driving, but not that bad. I will check for slow leaks and drive a little smoother; hopefully the next time i fill my tank this value will be much improved.

Interesting theory, I hadn't known about this before. Unfortunately i only have figures for my car over winter months in 2007 and 2009. I will be interested to see what happens in the summer.

Ok this is the last update on this I promise.

Filled the car again on new years day, mpg has made a huge comeback from the worrying low of 28.7mpg back up to a new high of 35.4mpg (8.02L/100km). Only reason i can think of is motorway mileage and slower driving due to weather conditions over Christmas.

Shoots the winter gas theory down at least.

Does any one have a link to a DIY guide for the Quattro 2.8? The guy at the shop I took it to said he would have to take the gas tank off to get to it so he wouldn't attempt it.

Mechanic told me the same thing and his book called for like an 8 hour job. No thanks so a buddy and me decied to do it. Took one hour and you do not have to drop the tank. I have the 2.8 quattro. loosen the drivers side gas strap and wedge a block between the body and gas tank. It's a tight fit and you will have to do some wrestling but 1 hour I think was pretty good for a complete job. Be sure to get the fuel line washers with the filter.
