Default Gas tank issues again

Okay so a while back I was having a problem with my gas tank smelling when I was driving. Turned out my dumbass drilled 2 holes into the tank from the top to mount my subwoofer. I sealed it with gas tank sealant and haven't smelled gas inside the car since.

Now Im having a filling problem. It seems like a vapor line or check valve is clogged, when I am filling up the pressure will build up and gas will start spilling out a bit and the pump will stop. I have to pull the nozzle out listen to the pressure come out of the filler hole and then continue over and over till I get a measly 7 gallons in. max.

So my question is what can I do to fix this? Is the vapor line or pressure relief valve bad? VW qutoed me 1200 for a new tank and that's parts alone so I'm not goin that route since my car is for sale.

Any help appreciated.

Sounds to me like it's the gas station(s) you use. Thats a pump related issue, not a gas tank issue. VW is a dick for even trying to suggest with a price quote that your gas tank is the problem. Our gas tanks are sensitve to the angle of the pumps dangle. I suppose if the vent hole was clogged, it might have something to do with it. You could try blowing compressed air through it.

Sounds like the valve to the EVAP canister is stuck shut, EVAP canister is clogged, of the tank pressure sensor isn't functioning properly. To determine this, you can remove the line to the EVAP core and attempt a refuel, but escaping vapors can be dangerous...

Why did they say you need a new tank? Is the valve integrated into the tank?

They gave me no real reason why I needed a new tank so I just took my car and left. I dont think the valve is integrated but who knows?
