Default Gearshift and engine hot

Hi, I did search the threads for this but couldn't find any answers so hopefully...

Just had my A4 (B5 - MY 1999) serviced by an Audi specialist - all good but when I was driving home (normal traffic conditions - about 20km's) I noticed that the foot of the automatic gearshifter and the plastic surround (that has P - 4 and the tiptronic gate) and the 'wood' trimmed area got fairly hot. This area had remained cool prior. I also noticed that the right and left sides of the engine bay (above each headlight) got very hot and stayed that way after turning the car off for 2 hours. It has been a hot day (for Sydney, 28 degrees C) and they had replaced the gearbox oil.

I note that the engine coolant temp is at 90, oil temp is at 60 and no warning lights are on. Gear shifting is still smooth.

I'm just lost for any reasons why it should heat up like that. Any clues? I'll be calling the garage in the morning but in the meantime, can anyone relieve my worry?

dont know about the headlights areas... but maybe they forgot to put your heatshields back on around your tranny... ive never been under an automatic a4 before, but im sure its similar to the manuals with lots of heatshielding.

Yeah, for some reason the heatshield thing has been on my mind so I'll check that out. Thanks for your reply.
