when ever I get a code the cel does not light up but when I turn the key to the on position it will light up and go out like it should why is this happening.

Not all codes trigger a CEL. Which codes are you getting?

Iv been getting misfire codes they should be turning the light on

well if you have a slight misfire, sometimes you won't get a cel but you may get the code. check your plugs and do a seafoam treatment
