Default Good deal??

Hey guys im new to this forum, you can call me Gio. Anyway I was looking at this 1999 A4 2.8 Quattro listed for 5k. I went and saw it today, heres a little about the car. It was a 1 owner vehicle and has 81k miles on it, Its black on black, the interior is mint and the outside has some surface scratches but nothing a good buffing job would take care of. When i went to see it, it was on a lift because im pretty sure it got traded in they probably gave the guy 2k if that for it, it needs a clutch, brake lines, cv shaft, and has a leak, not a bad one but its where the tranny and the engine are i forgot the specific name of the part but he said they are seals that need to be replaced. Anyway all of this stuff is being taken care of and the car should be ready by next friday. What do you guys think about it? Will it last me and do you see any serious problems with that leak? Thanks in advance, appreciate it

$4000 sounds better. You can probably find one with a new clutch for under that, the 81k miles and new clutch are the only enticing things. Is the timing belt done because it needs to be done.

If you plan on going "fast" or modding your car, you'll want to look at a 1.8T instead. I would hate to see you go through that whole process and find out it's not what you really wanted in the end. It sounds like you know what you're doing though. $4500 seems on the high end, but not too bad. Definitely ask for documentation on the timing belt...

Yea i wanted to get an a4 1.8t but there were none around or anywhere to be found for that matter. Is the timing belt on the A4's a big thing? like a big job? I havent heard anything on it at all, but the 6 cylinder isnt incredibly slow either. I mean its not as fast as the 1.8t modded but still i dont think its bad. I eventually want to get an exhaust, Can you put a cold air intake on the 2.8?

fixed

you can do a cold air. its pointless because the stock box is a great intake.

timing belt is the main job on these cars, so its concerning you haven't heard of it. Google it, long story short don't do it and your car turn into a grenade.
