got my rs4 bumper painted!!
if you have to drill into the bumper put a pice of tape over where your going to drill. Drill through the tape and this will make it so the paint doesnt chip, at all. And if you start to drill and the bit moves from the point your drilling you have sort of a safe boundary where the tape is so you dont scratch your new paint. Start slow with the drill then when your part way through kick up the rpms on the drill.
the bumper is only skim coated (crappy job at that), i would still need to have it painted. my point is i dont want bolts sticking out of it all over the place. there is literally nothing on the shell to attach it to the car. theres no way to attach the square bar that goes between the bumper shocks and the plastic snaps that are on the side are non existant. drilling isnt the problem i have with it. im pretty inventive when it comes to mounting. but imagine you take your bumper off and make a 1/2" thick fiberglass mold of the outside of the bumper. this is basicly what they sent me, there is nothing on the back side of it. im really at a loss as to what they expect you to do with it. looks like im going to have to spring for one of the more expensive bumpers.
I had the same "shell" you did when I did mine. What I had to do is take the stock bumper reinforcement, mount it on the car, then slide the bumper cover over the reinforcement...then you have to drill straight through the front of the bumper into the bumper reinforcement and install a coiuple of screws...from there you can have the body work done to get rid of the screw holes, or like me, just get a euro plate and cover screws. Then you'll need to use the stock hardware to tie it in in the fender well. I also added a small screw at the top part of the bumper into the quarter panel by the fender well. It ends up fitting pretty good if you take your time.
no...sorry... I mounted the support first, then slid the cover over it second, then secured it
