Default Greetings!!!

Hi everyone!

I just got a 98 A4 2.8 Quattro and i felt pretty lost. I have no experience with Audi as its the first car with more than 2 seats. My previous cars include a 79 Fiat X1/9 that i restored with my dad from 05-06. In 07 I got my dads 05 Mazdaspeed Miata. Immediatly i hit the forums and pulled 210hp out of it. Many argue that this is impossible but digital records (from my standalone) say that it took 4.6 seconds for 0-60 with 2-step launch control and flat shifting. I had tons of mods and work into it.

So lost and confused on odd google findings I decided i would do what i always do...find a good board. Well it looks like i found one!

I was dissapointed to see my new 2.8 is not going to have the modability that my miata had. I already have my sights set on the supercharger. I find it ludicrous that this engine only puts out 190 when the 4 cyl puts out 178. 12 HP in 2 more cylinders? Cmon Audi...

I will need to rebuild my engine or build an engine in my garage before i strap on an SC. My cluster says 141k... Does anyone here have any input on what to do in that aspect?

The other is money. I simply cannot afford 5k at the moment. I was hoping there was someone on here that may be selling one of these SCs or maybe even an engine...or maybe both.

I have read the newbie guides and most of the stickies. Sorry if theres soemthing in this post that a search would have helped with but this seems like a good introduction.

Thanks for reading!
Thanks in advance for the replys

You would be more happy with a 1.8t because all of the mods, but you should look at the FAQ parts of the forum. AWD or FWD

You should probly be on www.scaudi.com but I would like to mention that the price of the SC is down to 3500 now not 5k unless they raised the price again. Also you can find them on ebay occasionally for about 3200 if I remember correctly. Also you probably don't need a rebuild yet the engines are very long lasting if they have been well maintained and mine I believe still makes factory hp ratings (from my 0-60 times that is). If you are going to rebuild the engine though I suggest taking your time and really doing it lol. Personally I like the PES g1 kit more then the G2 because a FMIC can be easily added to it. Where as the G2 is mounted right to the intake and the only real cooling you can do to it is water/meth. I have been looking into what it would take to bore out the 2.8 to a 3.0 and have found that it is very much possible but also rather costly. The idea is rather ambitious but would be one fun project. My idea was though to put a G1 kit w/ FMIC, full stand alone and built and stroked bottom end on the engine. All possible but rather expensive... the advantage though w/ the 3.0 idea is you would end up w/ the same clutch used in the S4 so you could easily get a clutch to suit the power you should end up with. I wouldn't expect that project to cost any less then 12-15k

If your stuck with the 2.8, then definitely check out scaudi.com. There are a couple tests that you should perform before going S/C to ensure your engine is in well enough shape to accept the add'l h/p. You'll need to do a compression test, a leak down test, along with changing your timing belt, plugs, water pump, etc. It's not 100% necessary to do your timing belt if it's recently been replaced, but since you have to rip the front of the car off to install the G1, might as well do it anyways. The G2 on the other hand, as mentioned, sits on top of your manifold so no front end removal is required.....but that's not to say you still should change your timing belt while you're at it.

I picked my G1 up from the classifieds for $2100 and i had 138,800 on the clock when i installed it. Been running like a champ for the last 3k

Not necessarily true (although you did say normally). I had no intentions of modding my car when i bought it (except maybe for some rims). I didn't find this site until 3 years after i bought the car, and only realized then how limitied the 2.8 was for upgrades.

Okay well that all sounds like great news!

Im really happy that i should be able to strap my SC on there soon.

If someone could link me or tell me exactly what supercharger im looking for that would be great.

It looks like ill be doing the whole srrpantine, timing, water pump, etc deal from the stealership for around 1400$$. Normally i would do it all myself but my dad sold all of our tools (including mine) when he moved. Not to mention i will be getting contributions from my parents because theyre so happy i didnt get another tiny rocket car that i would certainly die in (many close calls).

I actually love this car. I was looking at BMW 323s as well as more miatas but when i saw this A4 i knew it was the best place my money could go.

Currently I am a little worried about some valve noise in the engine. It really sounds dieselish. I have recorded a video (really just for the sound) on my iPhone and i will be posting it soon for a second opinion.

I have no idea when the last oil change was and i have my doubts that any belts or water pumps have been put on this car since it was built. Whoever had this last put wheels and tires that rub the rear suspension...

Ill be making a post soon asking about some of the odd things about this car....including a insturment cluster mystery. Im sure you all will have great fun finding out what the hell the last guy did...

THank you all for the posts, im really happy with the amount of people posting on this board, i had no idea the A4 was this much of an enthusiast's car!!

Here is a link to the PES G2: http://www.superchargersonline.com/p...er=PES-2830VSC

You can also try looking online for a G1, but they are hard to find....especially complete.

Audi's normally have a slight tapping/ticking sound coming from the engine, so what you're experiencing is probably normal. Post up that vid so we can take a listen just to be sure

If you're lookin for lots of mods, i'd go with a 1.8t like the other guys were sayin. I've heard of people shoving upwords of 20-25psi through them on stock internals.

That said, I have a 2.8 and I love it. I've become very fond of the 6 cyl. exhaust note versus that of an I4. The PES G2 won't bolt onto the 12v that i've got so i have even less to work with, but i plan on keeping mine and just makin it look cool rather than go really fast (partly because i don't really need it to go any faster than it already does lol)

Anyhoo, i'm done rambling and welcome to the forums. As you mentioned, we're all very enthusiastic about these cars. For other cool sh*t besides the S/C, check out websites like
