Default grinding when turning to the right

I drive a '98 2.8QM, and for about the past 3 days or so, something in the steering is grinding when i turn the wheel to the right, while driving, and sitting still. I can feel it in the wheel as it grinds and it's increasingly harder to steer while sitting still, both ways.

any ideas? i was thinking maybe CV, rack, or PS pump?
any input would be very helpful

Did you check the power steering fluid?

Green cap behind the driver's headlight. Only use Audi fluid - it's mineral oil based, not standard stuff at the parts store. I use Pentosin CHF11-S.

Nope, clutch and brake share the same reservoir. Could be a suspension issue, a bad rack, or something rubbing in the wheelwell.

well it appears now that only when it sits for a few hours +, it will make the grinding. but after driving it for a while it disappears. confusing confusing.

I've got the same issue in my 96 A4. Feel the vibration in the steering wheel. Haven't checked the fluid yet. Could it be a worn/wearing out belt?
