Car: 1998 a4 2.8 Quattro

Hey there guys, I'm new to the forum, I usually frequent turbobricks.com but my wife and I just bought an A4 to enjoy. Hope to make good friends here and return the support the best I can.

Our car has a hard start issue in the morning. It takes 7 to 8 seconds of cranking for it fire up when cold, but when warm, it fires right up.

Armed with a decent amount of knowledge, I changed out the coolant temperature sensor with a new Meyle one. It didn't make a difference.

My temperature gauge worked before, and it still works now.

Only issue is, the cold start issue persists. Anywhere else to look?

I had this problem and it was a vacuum line to one of the two kombi valves. But the temperature was below 40F when it happened in my case. Cold engine + cold ambient temp and the car took forever to fire up. Fixed the vac line and no more issues.

Can you hear the fuel pump priming if you turn the key to ON without firing up the motor?

 

Hey there, thanks for replying to both of my threads, I changed the vacuum lines today and still no difference. Perhaps the kombi valve is bad, but the odd thing is that this car has had hard start problems for many weeks. just yesterday the p0411 code came on. could they still be related?
