Has anybody else had extreme problems like this
Okay so ive had my 97 2.8qm for about 4 months now
and when i bought the car i had the coolant thermistat sensor replaced because it was bad
so about a month later the cel came on and it was the same thing wrong so i had it replaced
for free of coarse because it was still under warrenty
and now this week it came back on so i took it in got it fixed and when i pick up the car today
the guy tells me that not only was the sensor bad but the actuall thermistat for the whole engine
was bad
so it ended up costing me $280
and if anything else to do with thermistats goes wrong im going to get rid of it and get a
1.8T
but has anybody else had this problem?

Ha... A 1.8T is not the answer to your problem. Funny though.
Your problem was probably just a bad thermostat to begin with. Did you or anyone actually test the engine coolant temp sensor for resistance, etc. with a multimeter before replacing it multiple times? Sounds to me like the "extreme problems" stem from shitty diagnosing.

so maybe they got lazy and just told you they did it and did some half a** job to cover there pocket exspense so that they knew the problem would come back agian and this time they could charge you.
oh i know a 1.8 wont solve the problem but i want one anyways so that could be a reason
for me to buy one
you see my car is slow
and its sad
but i think they did just do a half assed job the first time
it still sucks though i think most mechanics will to that just to steal
you money no offence to any mechanics/techs who will read this
but its true in most cases

Thats the way I felt about 10 years ago and is what gave me the ambition to figure things out for myself. Had I owned an Audi back then, I would have been taken for every penny. There are certainly a lot of dishonest service advisors. Usually it's the mechanics/techs who are honest, and the service advisors who wants to reach up your ***. I used to work at the dealer, so I have first hand experience, and they are all pretty much the same.
