It's hard to say from the pic, but I can tell you that to be sure, you need to line it up at TDC cylinder 1 now (find the indexing arrows cast into the cam caps closest to the tensioner, and rotate the engine til the timing marks (small square recesses on each cam) line up with those arrows. Count your links, then hand-rotate the engine over until the marks line up again. If both marks align again with the arrows, you're done. The first one we did here, we ended up off a tooth after rotation and had to tear it down again and reset it.

^^^meant to say, if after rotation both marks line up and you still have the 16 link spacing, you're done.

I got it at a little past TDC before dissassembly(just missed it)..I was going to change the chain too along with the tensioner but then I realized I can't unless I remove the exaust camshaft as well soo I just left it..but I did not mark the old chain ...thats what I'm worried about..but I don't think the chain moved on the exaust cam so the links should be the same I presume...?

I did what you said I rotated the engine once and the marks to seem to align.

After installing the tensioner before rotation

After rotating (I missed tdc by the slightest n went passed it)

I still can't tell if there are 16 between the links..what would happen if were a few links off?? I am also scared about the tensioner..how on earth does oil reach that part..my old one was full of oil..

THAnkx again

It's hard to tell from the angle of the pics but it almost looks like 16 links before and 15 after. Can you take a pic from directly above, looking straight down? That would help - at the angle you're at it's hard to judge the exhaust cam and which link is lined up on it.

As for being off - the first one we did here, we ended up off by one tooth and the car had no compression - there was always a valve open. You could hear it when cranking, it just wouldn't fire. Off by a few teeth? You'll probably wreck the valves.

Oh, as for when you go to fire it up - it's gonna take quite a bit of cranking before it fires, and you may get a cam position CEL code. Until the tensioner pumps up (which takes time) it's not gonna fire. Just keep at it with the cranking and you'll get it.
