Default Help! Cannot start audi suspect it's the alarm

I have a 1996 Audi A4 2.8 manual and non quattro. I went to start me car I realized that it was hard to put the key into the ignition. Once it Got the key in the car would not start on the try. Once the car started I notice that the front lights and the signal lights would not come on. It was late at night so I drove home with me hard holding onto the high beam. Anyways after this incident my car will turn over. No sound at all on the start. I had a friend check the start and says it fine. The car has a new battery. I believe the alarm is disable the ignition. As for the lights, I'm not sure. How do I disabe the alarm or how can I fix the issue/alarm. Thanks

ignition switch, when your buddy checked your starter, did he make sure you where getting voltage to it when you turned the car over?
I know on my jeep TJ that they start acting funny when the ingnition is under 11.5 volts.

Get a multimeter and stick it on the starter terminals while having someone else try to start the car. Just to be sure to rule out other causes, how new is the "new" battery? I'd have your alternator checked too, they do it for free at Autozone or Advance

Agreed. Sounds like a bad ignition switch.

The battery is new from Walmart. It's the one for Audi. Can an ignition issue cause the head lights and signal lights to not work? I pushed started the car and was able to drive the car around but the lights are still not working. That's why I suspected the alarm is disabling the lights.

Absolutely. Do the hazards work?
