Default help with fitting new dipstick tube (orange)

Hey guys

I am having some problems with installing a new dipstick top for my 98 1.8T.

I received the plastic top which fits on the dipstick:
http://i.ebayimg.com/08/!B0nEDig!Wk~$(KGrHqUOKjUE)K,pWvP9BMbCyLBp0w~~_35.J PG

But when i try to put it on, it doesnt sit far enough down the dipstick.

is there some kind of technique to do this, do i need to push with irregular force or something like that?

Any help would be much appreciated.
Also can a wobbly dipstick tube (which obviously isnt air tight) cause performance problems?

Thanks
