Angry Help this is getting old...

Just got done replacing an exauhst pipe, power steering pump, and MAF sensor. Took for a test drive, check engine light finally gone but humming noise from the front started, speed sensitive, was not there before these repairs. Car died once while coming to a stop sign, started right back up. Got louder and louder according to speed. Wheel bearings are okay, all ready fixed those. What could it be. I love this car but all the repairs are getting anoying, exspecially when you don't have a job

To help the diag go easier, is it engine speed related or is it vehicle speed related? Assuming its a manual trans, if you push in the clutch does the noise change? If you press on the brakes does the noise change? If you turn the steering wheel does the noise change? Does the noise change when going around a turn?

It is a manual trans. Noise goes according to the cars speed not the motor rpms. Did not notice a noise when putting the clutch in, will check again soon. No exessive play in the fron drive shafts (it is quattro). Did notice an interuption in between 1000 and 1500rpm when letting off the gas she studders a little to the idle. Might have more than one problem... Like I said this did not exist before I did the things mentioned above. Help is so greatly appricated. Back to the garage to see if I can get this beat...

Hmmmm I can't see how anything you have done would create a front end noise un-related to engine/trans speed. I think you need to go on a little drive to be positive of what you hear when you hear it. Even a sound clips would help. Do you hear the noise while the engine is idling at a stop? How about engine at idle while moving but in neutral? You replaced all 4 wheel bearings? Are you certain that it is not this "exhaust pipe" you replaced rattling? Which pipe did you replace?

Are you sure it's not just your tires out of balance? Sometimes if it's minimal, you can hear a humming sound but not feel any vibration in the steering wheel.

I had a piece made up to replace the audi clamp pipe, it is a little too big, so I'll have a different one made up tomorrow and take it for a drive. Everything seems fine. The tires are new, less than 2500 on them. I've only had to replace one front and one rear wheel bearing. It does not sound like that. Be lucky if I can drive it tomorrow (today), however you want look at it lol. Have to do a rear seal on my brothers 350 first. Thanks for the advice so far. I'll let you guys know what it does. Hopefully that large piece just caused a noob mistake. I’d feel like an idiot but that would be cheaper

ha ya lets hope . So a front wheel bearing is still a posibility. I know whenever I have to do 1 wheel bearing on either the front or rear I will end up replacing both, this being because I have been fooled before into thinking its one while its really the other. Tricky things that they are.

I have the 1.8 ATW. It is possible it is another wheel bearing. I will also rotate the tires to see if it helps. My check engine light did come back on when I took it out today. Also died at another stop sign again too. The drive train seems good. Had it on snow covered road and she did fine. But the noise is still there. The exhaust still rattles a lil, but better. Thanks for all the suggestions. I appreciate it, and may more suggestions and help I hope

Also the wheel bearing does not bother me to much if it is, I have ran on the other ones for a little bit (familar with that problem lol)
