I have a 1996 Audi A4. It has been sitting for about 6 months since I got a newer car. I went to jump start it the other day and could not get the hood opened. When I pull the latch from inside the car, the hood opens. The button latch that pops out of the grille still pokes out, but feels like it is stuck and does not move fluidly like it used to when I pull on it to open the hood. I have tried everything, including sticking my hand in the small slot and tried to move it. I cannot get a good grip on it to do anything though, since I can only get my hand in to about my wrist. I am attaching pics so you will understand what I am talking about. Any help is GREATLY appreciated.

 

looks broken, it shouldn't pull out that far. You can pop the grille out and do it that way.

 

I thought of that but....... How do I pop the grille out? I tried to pull on it from the front and push on it from the back. It feels like there are 4 clips in each of the corners of the grille, but I could not get them to unlatch from the back. Any suggestions?

 

Trim removal tool. If you can feel the clips, they "open" imagine a folded piece of Paper. You have to unfold them to release them. Or you can get a good grip and pull the grille it will come. I'll snap a pic later

 

I used a standard screw driver to depress the clips and pop the grill out from the front when my hood release cable popped out. Just be careful to not break the clips. These grills are f*cking expensive.
