Default Help me 1.8T'ers

I got a price on a 98 1.8T quattro engine. $2000 but ill shake'em a little...but thats with out accessories.

question - willthe'accessories' that are already on my 2.8 work on the 1.8?

question - could i find the accessories at a cheaper price.

question - is he talking about the turbo accessories? or other things.

ummm, if your car is set up for a 2.8, then you should stick w a 2.8...

if you were to swap for a 1.8T you'd prolly have to start over again as far as a wiring harness goes...and you'd also need a new ecu...I am not sure how many of the accessories will bolt up to the 1.8T from the 2.8....

I would assume that if you bought a 1.8T that it would be the entire engine including the turbo, but if accesories are missing than you may need to buy things like

a timing belt (you should replace it anyways and the tensioner as well (pretty much under any circumstance))
I don't know how the radiators are set up. (hopefully they are the same)
I am guessing the motor mounts and snub would be in the same place, but yhey may not be..(buy some nice ones from 034!)
possibly a Turbo inlet pipe? airbox? (samco TIP/custom intake/heatshield?)
power steering pump (yours from the 2.8 prolly wont bolt on to the 1.8 motor)
a water pump if it doesn't come with one (hopefully it does though)
a wiring harness possibly(may be a pita to find/ but your 2.8 harness may be adaptable with a bit of splicing?)
coil packs? spark plugs?
even if it does come with a turbo, the turbo may not be any good... (BT time! the engine isn't in the car yet which makes it easy!)
you'll definately need a new catalytic converter and a new exhaust system...(hfc from labree for 250- and a custom cat back)
intercooler? (if it doesnt have one you could go fmic)

It looks like about a 4500-5000$ job...

best place to find parts would be forum classifieds, junkyards, wreckingyards, pick and pulls, LKQonline.com, craigslist, and your best bet will be eBay

well, gl! if it were me spanding all this cash I would be going for a 2.7T or a VR6T...well, good luck...seems like you could buy a 97 A4 1.8TQM for about $6K with about 120K or so miles on it, and then you'd have a whole nother car!

gl!

there's so many threads on this and most Ive read had the consensus of "trade it in and just buy a 1.8t".
