Default Combo Switch - 98.5 A4 B5 30V

So my girlfriend is not as excited as i am to change my combo switch. Go figure...I know someone else here has drove with a rubber band holding their brights on wondering why all my fuses and bulbs are ok, the dash indicates the headlights are on, but nothing[:@]So by searching here and the write up by upstateNYA4, and a few PM's- thank you - I beleive the combo switchis the problem. Just to confirm, my brights work when i pull back, but not push forward, wipers don't work, no Cruise, but the parking lights come on. I ordered a new switch, both sides(Turn/cruise and the wiper) for $100 shipped. Will this fix my problem? I also have no temp display on the dashand the blower i guess it's called stopped working, but the digital display reads the ac is on full at 65 degrees. Is that the ignition switch? I worked at a stealership for mercedes benz in the service department and those snotty techs wouldn't change a taillightbulb for less than a 1/2 labor.I asked Audi what it would cost for them to change the switch and they wanted almost $1000 - I'm not cheap, i'm just not stupid and paying that. Very helpful forum here and i have been reading posts for months. I have time to work on my car now as i have a clean garage now and extra cash burning a hole in my pocket. I'll get some pictures of my stock beast up tonight. Tanks again for any help.

From everything you say, the new combo switch will fix the problems related to your existing switch. If your parking lights work but not the headlights, why is that? Can you physically move the switch to the second position that would turn on the headlights, or is it "jammed"? Mine was jammed, and as I think I said in the writeup, it was the contact inside that melted down and prevented the lever from moving all the way up. What I found was that when it melted, it also sucked a contact up inside the slider where it couldn't touch the pad on the switch body that would trigger the lights, so even if I could have moved the lever up to the second position, the lights still would not have worked.

The cruise failure is not likely to be related to the lights, but the stalk is known to die and kill your cruise control, so your new combo switch should fix that too. Ditto the wipers I'd imagine, although I haven't heard of wiper problems with the stalk.

My outside temp display randomly quits and comes back - not sure if the stalk will fix that.

So these are the pics to explain what i was talking about - the headlight indicator is on, the stalk is up in the right position, but no headlamps. The parking light stays on, no headlamps. On the dash you can see the temp guage is out and the ac control is on high, but no air is coming out. And all of this happened at once. Thanks for the help
