So I started my car and I put the car in drive and it shifted it self into that tripnotic thing. I never use that. So I turn the car off and started it again and it did the same thing. It won't drive in normal drive. So I had to use 4th gear. What's wrong????

 

It's stuck in 4th gear? Are all the lights for your gears on the dash highlighted in a red box? If so it's tranny limp mode. You have a probelm with your tranny control module or more than likely your tranny range switch/sensor. Gotta get it to a shop that knows a little something about VW/Audi. The dealer if you don't mind the labor costs.

 

no its not stuck in fourth. when i put the car on D and puts it self on that tripnotic whatever its called. my cars a auto. i have that things that i can switch to the easy person stick shift. when it switches to that it still doesnt work. so i had to put the gear into fourth so it could move.i can D, 4, 3 ,2. another question how fast can i go in fourth??

 

it "automatically" throws itself into tiptronic?

so when you're sitting in "D", on the display, you can see "1" followed by a 2, 3, 4, and 5?

and why in the **** are you using 4th to start......... at least do 2, then shift to 3, and then to 4.


edit: for elaboration; in tiptronic mode, you can see which gear is selected by looking at the display. in regular automatic it'll still have that display, but with different letters/numbers.

 

i shift the car into drive. by it self it put the car into tripnotic. im not pushing the thing over to turn it on. so i go one does into 4 and the car moves. the car will not move while its in D or tripnotic

 

Oh i see so you shift down into 4 (above 3, and 2) not in tip mode or regular D. I'm still saying its the range switch. Are all you gears on the dash highlighted in a red box?

 

cant tell cuz it swtichs over to trip thing pretty fast. even know it switches but doesnt work. plus my display screen thing is pretty screwed up. if its not all highlighted. what would that mean?

 

It would mean tranny limp mode. But since you only have 4th gear, thats a giveaway in itself that you are in tranny limp mode.

 

also how fast can i drive in that gear?? i gotta get to work

 

i havent tryed the other gear things. remember im not using the tip thing. im just going one down from the D and in the 4. i havent tryed 3 and 2.
