My mom has a 97 a4 quatro automatic and just yesterday the car wouldn't go into reverse. She took it to a shop to do a diagnostic test. They found nothing and charged her $90. On the way back from the shop i noticed it was not going into overdrive. I am mechanically inclined and i will do the work to fix it but i dont know where to start.
Any help would be wonderful thanks.

I have the same car with the same problem. Have you had any luck with fixing it?

 

il give you credit for searching, but that post was almost 2 years ago, and he hasnt signed on since.

 

replace the oil in the car if that doesnt work time for a new tranny

 

Look for the recent post on the 97 with these probs....I'm ALSO experiencing the same...I await AFs genius

 

Problem: You have an automatic transmission.

Solution: Replace with manual transmission.

Really?? Will we all be gettin free tickets to see you tell jokes down at the Chuckle Hut this weekend too?? Yay! Now....if you don't mind....we really could use some REAL answers to these common probs. Sure the 5speeds are fun, but not as common...I mean....surely you DO know that they are few and far between....esp in the yards, right? Let alone dropping $1000-2000 on a swap in a $4000 car just don't make sense, when there's probably an $80 part involved....now back to the REAL help...
