Exclamation HELP - Removing Front Disc Brake Rotor - 1997 A4 2.8 Quattro

See pic.

I've pulled everything off and the rotor will not budge. Done some searching and have a few manuals but none show this bolt/nut and how to remove.

Anyone have insight/feedback? Appreciate the help!

Specs:
  • 1997 A4 Quattro
  • 2.8 V6 12 Valve
  • Brake Upgrades - Not that I'm aware of.

A breaker bar with a REAL long and heavy duty steel pipe for leverage! Put the rim and tire back on and lower the car and block the wheels, then sit on the bar. . .

Great. and i'm guessing the replacement rotors are not going to work. fantastic!

Thanks for the reply. Why did Audi make so many variations for rotors on their cars?

That's cuz it holds your axle in and doesn't need to be removed to take the rotor off. Just smack the rotor with a big mallet or dead blow.

No, that's an axle bolt, leave it alone. Grab a sledge and some rust breaker. Hose the crap out of the hub area. Hammer away on the rotor surface left, then right. It will walk right off. You are replaceing the rotors anyway, don't be afraid to damage the old ones.

Before replacing the rotors, be sure to clean the rust off the hub and coat it with some nice high-temp anti-seize.

Sounds like a good plan! Get a bigger hammer. You won't hurt the hub.

Ha! While writing that I thought, "I wonder if anyone will hit me up with, 'that's what she said'".

Thanks everyone. I successfully slammed the rotor off.
