Help please! My tranny failed on me the other day. Pouring gear oil out like a mother... 2nd is slipping and 4 doesn't hold unless you hold it. My buddy, a mechanic, looked at it when I had it towed up to his shop and he said it is leaking out of the main seal in the bell housing.

I need to replace my seal, no problem, but my question is: Because of the slip, he believes that oil has saturated the clutch and that is why 2nd is slipping and 4th doesn't hold cause of the lack of oil. However, do I need to replace/ rebuild the tranny or should I take the chance and see if it works. I don't want to take the damn tranny out 2x. Don't have that time.

Is it cheaper to rebuild it or buy a used one?

What is the engine swap that I hear ppl are doing with the a4 2.8? I thought it was a vr6 or something.

Does anyone know of anyone in charlotte nc that rebuilds tranny's or is selling one?

is your tranny auto nontip, auto with tip or manual?

depends on what tranny you have

the VR6 is a VW engine. there is no trend with ppl doing engine swaps on the A4 2.8
