Help with VAG-COM Connection
1998 A4 Quattro 2.8
I bought a cable (please resist flaming me) off of eBay to do some simple things like re-set CEL etc.
The cable description a VAG-COM USB KKL 409.1 cable for AUDI VW OBD2 OBD 2. Same cable listed here
I am able to connect to my friends 2000 Passat 1.8T with no problem, but I cannot connect to my car. The COM is correct (Windows XP) set to COM2 and the software 409.1 (which was on the cable driver CD) is set to COM2 and it recognizes the cable.
I have the cable connected, turn the ignition on and then open the application. Whenever I select ENGINE is get an error indicating that it connect connect.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

I have an E bay cable and use it all the time with my 2000 A4. If yours works on your friends car, then your cable and pc config must be good. I wonder if your diagnostics connector in your car is screwed up? The way you can find out for sure is to take it to a mechanic (or a dealer) that has vag com and see if he can get his to work. Might cost you a few bucks, but that will tell you something for sure. Good luck.
Update on the issue. I posted this on AudiWorld Forum and received a reply with a suggestion that it could be because my ABS module if my ABS/Brake light were on. It was suggested that I unplug my ABS module and try it and after doing so...BAM...connected immediately!
This did make me scratch my head a little because it would be impossible to diagnose an ABS problem if your module is the culprit and it prevents you from connecting.
Thanks!
