How do I check the Tranny Fluid on a B5?
I drove to school the other day and my mom said I had a leak when I pulled out of the driveway. It's all dried up now, so there's no telling what it was. I checked the oil (which is most likely the problem, since I think I'm due for new cam shafts), the brake fluid, and the power steering fluid. However, I cannot, for the life of me find a dip stick for the tranny fluid. I've looked all over, removed every cover, and couldn't find it. Is it something I need VAG-COM to check? Thanks.

it is something you need a vag-com, a lift, a lot of patience.....
to check
the ZF transmissions in our cars are sealed. supposed to have "lifetime" fluid in them. opinions vary on whether they should be flushed/fluid changed every 100K miles or so.
the good news is that if whatever leaked out from under you car dried up it wasn't transmission fluid or any of the other things it looks like you checked. for the most part (not always) if vital fluids leak out of your car they will stick around for a while to be discovered.
it was most likely water (did it rain?) which means you may have a clogged drain somewhere. you should look for that.
-my opinion. not an expert
