i want my shift boot to look like this... is this custom, or bought somewhere??

the suede looking material

its and OEM audi RS4 shift boot, you can probably find it online or get a universal one off ebay.

^^^I bought one from ShiftStyle as well (pics are in my album) and I love it. Nicely made and looks great. I'd happily endorse them.

Yeah it's pretty easy. Use the writeup on Audiworld.com for doing brushed aluminum trim - it'll show you how to remove the center tunnel. Once I had that out, I unbolted the boot from the console, put the alcantara boot over it (no need to remove the OEM leather one, and you can actually keep it a little stronger this way), put it back into place, and reassemble the interior center tunnel. Figure on 40 minutes or so start to finish.

on the 00-01, you can lift up that part around the boot, then take off the **** and you'll see clips for the boot under that plate
