Beleive it or not I have a 96 A4 Quattro with 66,734. Great condition
^^HOLY CRAP!

I bought my '97 A4 2.8qm one year ago with 114,500 miles on the clock, I now have 127,750 miles on it. Engine runs like a champ. One of the pre-cat O2 sensors was replaced right before I bought the car, I just replaced the other one a couple weeks ago. Currently, I need a new driver side power steering rack and new gaskets on my rear differential; also need a new A/C Evaporator and flush out the heater core. Other than that, I've got a few cosmetic repairs which are already in the works.

I have done everything on your new used Audi and I have 245,000 miles. Except igintion switch replaced only once under recall, valve covers and lower oil pan gaskets, both front outer CV boots, both front and rear wheel bearings, all 4 oxygen sensors, power windows clip replaced with an A6 clip http://forums.audiworld.com/a4/msgs/1956860.phtmlbut no radiator or climate control heads.

Still has a very small oil leak but I think it's from the upper oil pan gasket which was not replaced (difficult job). Everythingworks fine but just has an issue of not starting on first try which started about 2 years go. However, it always starts on the second try. Tried replacing engine coolant temperature sensor, fuel filter, fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator and spark plugs but still the same problem.

Good luck!

Hi Lebe Frei,

Not sure why was the ignition switch replaced twice as it was done by the previous owner. Maybe the original recall didn't fixed it in the first one.

My tranny looks like it is on its way out too as it is making a low whinning/grinding sound in first gear. The rest of the gears are ok. Also I have tried cleaning my TB and MAF but the RPM is still bouncing a little. The clutch seems ok according to the mechanic and he also said the Tranny is on dieing. Anyone changed that before and how much would it cost? I would rather keep the vehicle as it has such a nice ride at high speeds but if is it going to cost an arm/leg/newborn, rather sell is as it cheap.

Scottlee67: How much was the front and rear wheel bearings cost you? Mine is making a little knocking sound when turning but only audible at low speed.

98 A4Q 2.8L30V manual, purchased in Aug 05 with 105k miles
Currently with 129,200.

Always had a rough idle, but engine revs freely and puts out power with no issues. Ive researched it but gave up and accepted it.

the replacement is i think 1,500 to 1,700 bucksdepending on which model tranny was used in your car (for some reason audi decided toput2 different trannies in the same model (im actually not even sure how theyre different thats just what i was told)) and with labor it would be around $3,100 i believe...so yeah its an arm and a leg... and a left nut thats why my cars sitting right now. you can get transmissions on ebay for around $1,000 so i think im going to do that and do the work myself when i get a chance.
