This is what my vibrant catback sounds like just reving in the driveway. You can make it really loud when you open it up, or if you drive it normal you can make it pretty quiet.

Unfortunately, is STILL runs great. The ECU did just die a few weeks ago, but a used one for $150 from Ebay fixed it. We've really been pretty good at maintenance and have done most of the work ourselves. My wife loves cars also and it's her daily driver 120 miles each day. The reason I say "unfortunately" in the first sentence is that I'm dying to buy a new car. We have several cars now, but I'd really like to get an A6 for more room for the kids. My wife just feels awkward about putting on 120 miles each day on the A6.

We (or I, rather, since my wife hasn't gotten her fingernails dirty since we got married) just put on a new driver's seat cover (I have a posting in the forum) and I even chalked up and bought a new cup holder for $150!!!! $150!!!!! Had I bought it about 2 years ago when our dollar was a little stronger, it would have been $100. Yes, I could have gone to a junkyard, but my time is a bit worth more than the $50 I'd save.

So now, the only thing left wrong with the car is the LCD screen. It's missing some pixels. I believe I can get that fixed for $160 or something like that, but we'd have to ship the dash unit. I recently did a leak down test on the engine and it was surprisingly good. And this was with an APR chip/exhaust installed for more than $200k miles.

We figured if the engine finally dies, and I hope it's catastrophic, then we'd get the new car. Or if someone out there gives me a reasonable offer for the car, I'd take it.

Here is a company on eBay that will fix your LCD screen for only 139.00 plus shipping to them.

I plan on getting it done at some point, just not something is on my to do list at the moment.

I smell fumes, when in the cabin, not very strong but i smell it,i just did my valve cover gasket,so i don't see how oil can be leaking,so i want to take care of that, before my LCD.

Here is the link,good luck.

After searching long and hard on this topic, rest assured, it's best left to the people that do these sorts of things everyday. And just to qualify that, both my wife and I have a degree in engineering and have done our fair share of electronic repairs. But unless you've done it a million times, there's too many possible points for failure. For the $160 or $140 to get someone else to do it, I'd pay that time and time again.
