how many of you have oil pressure gauges
ok i need to know how many of you guys have oil pressure gauges like after market ones because i wouldn't mind putting one in like in the left air vent by the door really clean becasue i need to know were the oil line could go on the block so i could run it to the gauge
thanks
thanks
I think adding the gauge is a great idea. I hate having a temp gauge and a pressure warning light. My advice though would be to use a gauge with an electronic sending unit rather than a purely mechanical gauge. That way the oil is kept in the engine bay and the sender can measure the pressure and send the data to the gauge. That way you only have to run wires into the cabin, rather than hot oil. I don't know where you would pick up the pressure ideally though - maybe another 1.8T guy has done it and can chime in.
i never even thought of doing a electronic one that would be super easy that means i would just have to find where all the sending wires are but im always gonna keep an open mind to which is easier to do
Just keep in mind that a lot of factory gauge senders are "general idea" at best. Plus the pressure sensor isn't necessarily set up to drive a gauge - it may read differences and just trip the light at a certain point but its calibration probably won't match that of the aftermarket gauge you buy. That gauge will include a sender and it will likely be better and more accurate. The downside to an electronic gauge vs a mechanical one is cost. However, oil pressure is vital and it's money well-spent. If you can find one, look for a Defi gauge. I had Defi oil and boost gauges in my 300ZX. $250-300 each new but worth the money. Very high quality, very accurate, and the startup sequence was awesome (illumination of the logo, then the needle, then the gradations on the face, then a full sweep of the needle, with a power-down the reverse of that). Illumination is very crisp bright white on black - really classy looking and excellent quality. Search YouTube and you'll probably find demo videos of them.
Basically like this.

if you can find them, they're great. I think they're out of production now.
