Default how much boost ?

how many pounds of boost should i expect out of a stock a4 ?

my car seams extremely slow so i wanted to check the boost and see
what im getting. it is a automatic but it just seams really slow.
i had a 97 vw jetta with the 2.0 non turbo i think would beat it, its that slow.
unless someone has another idea of why its so slow.

thanks guys you always have the answers.

Depends on the year of the car. Read the FAQ up top.

2000 is an ATW motor, should be between 7-10psi IIRC. Do you have a boost gauge? Check for boost/vac leaks yet? When's the last time the car had a tune up? Mileage on the plugs? Air/fuel filters?

aeb and atw = 7-8 psi stock
awm = 10-11 psi stock

and i can answer the question to why your car is slow. its because it just slow. the 1.8 is less than 25% the size of the 454 in my truck. sure, it has a turbo, but its the size of a clementine that flows as much air as my grandma who died of lung cancer. they are just slow. get a chip and it will put you on par with 7000lb chevy duramax. maybe. this is why many 1.8 owners opt to undergo a big turbo build. most m3 owners do cosmetic upgrades over engine upgrades cause their cars are already kinda sorta fast. your 1.8 is not

i have had the car just over 6 months. the car has 124,000 miles on it. i dought there original plugs but im not sure how many are on the plugs. all hoses look good for vac issues. i have to get a boost gauge still.

redline-- thanks for being honest but its that slow is why i thing something is wrong.
i understand its got a small motor but is the turbo that small that it doesnt do that much ?

thanks guys for the help

get the speedtuning chip. its only 200$ or so and wakes the car up quite a bit. should raise you to 18 psi spike

You will not need to upgrade anything if you want to install a stage I chip. I would recommend going with an APR chip though. They have some of the highest quality products for Audi/VW. A chip from APR is about $500 but if you are going to reflash your ECU cheap is NOT the way to go. A cars ECU controls the entire engine and you dont want anything to go wrong with it.
Also something to think about is that for for an APR stage II chip you would only need to replace your catalyst converter with a testpipe. The chip would still be the same price and a new testpipe and be bought for about $150 or even get a used one somewhere. Again i recommend going with APR but really it is only just a metal pipe. Any one will do the job just as well.
With APRs Stage I chip your looking at about a 50HP increase. They didnt post the dyno statistics for the stage II but i have heard from numerous people that going from stage I to stage II is almost the same as going from stock to stage I in terms of power increase.

Check out their website. Everything you want to know can be found on there.
