hey guys, whats the general consensus on the price of a used 1.8t. just out of curiosity, i might look into that route. get a engine, throw it in, rebuild the old one and sell the old one to offset the cost.

i just bought an engine w/ a built bottom end and 0 miles for $1200. i think thats a pretty rare find. they usually go for about $1500 used w/ miles on them.

thats not the way you should build an engine though. buy another one to build up, then swap it in. it'll be less stressful that way, so you dont have to do 2 engine swaps.

im selling my bottom end, which was very well maintained. it needs one piston replaced, but it would be great for a rebuild. the car didnt knock or anything and i changed the oil every 4k.
im asking $350 OBO and i will ship it if i need to. im located on Long Island, nY.

 

i forgot you can also buy a stock crate engine for about $2200-2400.
