$300 is a good price. I bought a new one from audi and it cost $300 alone. Try a scrap yard. Its not really that hard. Theres to brackets on the top and the bottom slides out. Just disconnect the the two hoses at the bottom and the sensor right above. You might have to remove both headlights to. Its easy you cant mess up. Also sometimes they have a dye you put in the ac system to plug leaks.
Good luck!

Default RE: How to Replace AC Condenser

From personal experience (ive had to put in and remove the condenser about 4 times now from seized lines and broken ones i got from a scrap yard), 300 is a pretty good deal. Every single condenser ive gotten from a scrap yard has had a hole so id strongly reccomend against that. I found a place that got me a new one for 190 but i put it in myself (Dealer Automtive, i think they only have locations in Minnesota though). You might very well find that you wont be able to get both lines of your condenser. You have to hold both sides to take the lines of otherwise the condenser will twist, but even then on my stock one i couldnt take one of the lines off. Oh, and if it hasnt all completly leaked away its gonna let all of your refrigerant out when you take the lines off.

But to actually remove it heres what you do: I like to take off the belly pan and the lower valence thing or w/e its called that lower grey bumper (to do that you take off the two screws on either side and then pull it out, once the belly pan is out of course. Then it makes it easier to pop off the little left side grille, you just grab it and pull on the inside face of it not the outside (so the left side where the tab is). This will give easy access to the lines that go to the condenser. Start with the bottom line and use two wrenches to take the line off (one holding the condenser and the other turning the line), adjustable wrenches should work, but if enough force is needed you might need a specific wrench. Once that one is off go to the top one. Like I said, you might not be able to get them both off (i had to take my bumper off since i couldnt), and if you didnt let the refrigerant out itll blow the line off once you unthread it and spray gas and green dye everywhere. Once you have the lines off you remove the two brackets on either side of the condenser. Then take off the passenger side headlight and disconnect the connection to the pressure switch (which you will want to remove and keep to put on your new condenser since they are like 70 bux and sort of difficult to find). Then you just pull the condenser up and out of there (if for some reason it gets stuck, the condenser does bend easily so bend it to fit). When reinstalling everything use new o-rings, and make sure not to overtighetn the pressure switch, mine was overtightened and it twisted in half and blew itself out of its own threads. (Once again if it were me id just have them take care of everything, starting with a bad condenser myself, ive went through new lines, 3 used/new condensers, my bumpers been off 3 times, once it was filled the pressure switch blew off from overtightening, and finally its supposed to be charged again tomorrow for hopefully the LAST time, sorry to scare you but 300 doesnt sound too bad)
