Condenser Replace Help
Replacing the condensor on my 2003 A4, it was empty before I got the car so god knows how long it was like that, I picked up a can of 2 oz. oil and 2 oz. 134 refrigerant combo, and 2 cans of 134, should this be enough to fill? Also I was told to replace the Accumilator while in there because they have a dessicant bag that gets moisture laden when system is empty for awhile, is this true? And do I really need to vaccum the system before I refill, I am finding conflicting info on that, some guys say if you do the accumilator you don't need to vaccum, some say you need to vaccum either way, some say use the old accumilator. HELP!
Anytime that system is "opened" up, in order to recharge it you will NEED to have the whole system put under a vacuum and then filled. If not, there would be air in the system causing it not to work, and over pressuring the system.
If you replace the parts that are bad, and replace the orings (can get a oring kit for 8 bucks and its well worth it) you may be able to find a local shop to put the system under a vacuum and professionally charge the system for around 80 or so dollars. Well worth the money for sure !
the rule of thumb is to put back any oil you remove.
If you open the system you need to vacuum the air out or it won't cool properly.
You only need to replace the accumulator if the system has been opened for an extended period of time. I was always told to replace it everytime you service the A/C, but the price of those things kind of deters that idea.
Just so you know.... Your not going to be able to effectively fix this on your own.
I would suggest repairing yourself....... sealing the system and bringing it to a shop and have them vacuum and charge with the right amount
