Short shifters don't come with new linkage. The linkage is technically the long arm(s) that bolt between the shifter and transmission.

ohhh gotcha. using the wrong term, my bad. This shifter came with a little billet Y shaped thingy that connects to the linkage in that pic. Maybe thats what does the shift-shortening?
EDIT:
Found a pic:

Also well done editing the spam post lol

Yeah that Y thingy in combination with the shorter stick is what makes the shorter throw.

I tried calling the # that the spammer listed to beotch em out but it was disonnected

btw, I just ordered and am going to be replacing all the vac lines on the motor, does anyone see an issue with using cable ties on all the vac connections instead of those little one-time crimp clamps? I haven't been able to find a place that sells clamps that little

You don't really need clamps or ties on vac lines, but the more secure the better, I guess if not just for peace of mind. Stay away from $1 store zip ties. They break if you look at them the wrong way. Maybe it's the difference of nylon vs plastic. You can get the little stock pinch calmps at a vw/audi dealer for cheap, but they are difficult to secure without the special tool. I've had nylon zip ties on my lines for 4 or so years and they've held up.

Yeah I never had clamps/ties on them on my 2.8, but this car came with them from the factory so i figured maybe with the turbo it was necessary? Also was just reading about the shifter in the 2001 5spd. At some point they apparently switched to a bent rod from the straight one, hopefully i ordered the right shifter kit lol

Good news: My shifter (unlike Nick) is straight . I was a bit disappointed to see that it was also plastic, however. No matter, it'll be replaced soon enough
