Question I know nothing of an exhaust...

I'm goin for a good sound on my car, I feel like somewhat of a cheapskate for just going with a muffler with stock pipes. So I am wondering if its even worth it to buy just an aftermarket muffler (if so which one), or if I should just save up and buy a full exhaust system because it'll sound better and improve performance more. I ask because I only have about $300 to spend on this so, I was thinking about just a muffler for now...thoughts??

get speedtuning chip now, or save a little more for GIAC, save exhaust for after you chip your car.

chips will give you about 40-50 hp and 60+ft-lb, plus when you get exhaust, it will free up some more power from the chip.

for 140 you can pickup a magnaflow 1400 series muffler

and a shop would do straight 2.5" pipe from the flex to the new muffler for about $150....

go get yourself a quote for piping/install from a couple of your local muffler shops....

you should be able to do this on a 300$ budget...gl!

What engine do you have? I'd agree to spend the money on a chip if it's a 1.8T.
