ICM delete??
B5 A4 1999.5 quattro AEB tiptronic
My Audi has been having some really annoying misfire problems and after trying everything I discovered that its the ICM. I didn't think the ICM because I just replaced the stock one with a new one. I only paid 40 for it, now I really regret that!!
I am thinking about just replacing the ICM with a new OEM bosch one. But I can't decide if I should buy the ICM delete kit from 034motorsports? you can either pay $258 for a complete ignition replacement and upgrade to FSI coils or $220 just for adapters to upgrade to FSI coils. When its all said and done with adapters, coils, and delete its like $380.
I am really considering doing this because the ICM pisses me off, but is the price worth the gain? will the car run stronger and better? Will I gain any horsepower?
any info helps, thanks for your time!

If you're good with wiring you can reduce that $220 for the adapters to ~$60 for a new wire harness + shrink tubing. Not only is it far less expensive but it is the cleanest route IMO and gets rid of a lot of unnecessary wiring.
Also this is the best pricing I've found on OEM TSI/FSI coil packs:
Audi Parts - genuinevwaudiparts.com
Just over $80 for a full set including shipping!
Some people have noticed an increase in power. I can't say for sure that I did, but it does feel stronger at higher engine speeds.
Also I've noticed a pretty major increase in engine smoothness, at idle and part-throttle. Even when going just with the ICM delete and ATW coilpacks I noticed a smoother idle, but jumping from those coilpacks to 2.0 TSI coilpacks (California emissions version with 0.040" gap) there was greater smoothness achieved. I don't regret this decision in any way.

So I have been doing some research and found the icm delete kit for $85. and I alos found that everyone likes the hitachi bolt down coils over the pop ins and fsi coils. then I won't have to buy adapters and save some dough!! thanks!
I have the FSI push ins and it is the best modification I have done. I looked at the Hitachi bolt downs but decided against them when I compared the price to an OEM FSI push in. If one the FSI take ***** on me its $20 to fix. They also allow you to run a more civil .040" spark gap which makes for a better idle.
I bought the replacement harness and coils from ECS for around $140 or shipped. I then bought the adapters from 034 for $80 which I though was expensive. I could not be happier. The wiring is not hard and I suggest heat shrink wrap. My car has not missed since.
I considered the Hitachi coils like you but decided against them since they need the smaller spark gap.
I have seen these hold down kits for the push ins but that is not issue. They are a bitch to pull to say the least.

Who is "everyone"? FSI coils are a lot better than bolt-downs! I used to run bolt-downs (in fact, I still have them, if you'd like to buy them off me) and switched to FSI. Power delivery feels smoother, idle is a little smoother, and I'm pretty sure MPG increased a little. Though I'm running a different valve cover (AGN valve cover) and not using and adapters.

Well, the valve cover is more expensive than the adapters...
Smooth Valve Cover, 1.8T 20v AGN Smooth Valve Cover [06B103475L] - $89.00 : USRT, Usually Sideways Rally Team
It doesn't work directly with FSI coils and requires some creativity to make them stay put, but I've put in a couple thousand miles on this setup without a single issue. Also it has a port on the back (for PCV ventilation) which either needs to be added to the PCV system or plugged. And if you're using the hardpipe for PCV system then you would need to figure out an alternative for securing it.
Though it is a beautiful valve cover!
