Default I'm an idiot

Soo today i thought hey why not go and clean up the audi and make it shine again. I took it out, washed it down, got it all clean, realized that from where i was parking it some tree sap and residue was on it, it hardened like black glue almost. So i started using my fingernail with some warm water and it worked well, but some of them still stayed. So i resorted to 2000 grit sand paper. Ive used it before on other cars and it seemed to work just fine. I used it lightly and it did the trick for the most part. I washed it down and waxed it and realized that it scratched the hell outa my clear coat and is very visable when your standing near it. I only did it on my hood thank god, but its still smooth to the touch. Any futher ideas of what to do then take the hood off and get it repainted? Thanks.

I'm not much of a bodyman, that's more of my dads turf but he buffed the tree saps out of my truck when I got a couple in the hood.

Well i tried goo gone and it didnt work, so i was like alright sandpaper time. Ahh makes me cringe to think of sand paper on the paint, but i guess i got what i deserved. So if i buff it out with polish, it will take away the scratches? What about rubbing compound, and what kind of polish?

My dad uses stuff he gets from the shop that comes in clear white bottles but if I had to buy brand named stuff I'd get Mother's, Meguiars or Black Magic products.

Yeh, body shops have that white powdery stuff that resurfaces the clearcoat with a buffer

Make sure you buy POLISHING compound, not RUBBING compound. Big difference. And you don't have to lean on it, just work it with a soft rag it'll do its thing. After that a couple coats of wax should do the trick. The thought of taking sandpaper to my car gives me goosebumps lol. GL!

And btw, don't worry too much, sh*t happens. People do stuff all the time that seemed like a good idea at the time, but turned out to be really dumb. I do it all the time. Instead of bein pissed about it, spend your time thinkin' up good ways to fix it. ;-)

When i get the polishing compound, should i do something like Nu Finish's Scratch Dr? Or just stick with Turtle Wax's premium polshing compound?

Eh i would stick with the turtle wax. I've heard mixed opinions about results after using Scratch Dr. Use a couple soft rags and a light hand and the polishing compound should do the trick
