Default Intake air temp sensor

hey all, i just took my maf apart to clean it, and i saw i had no temp sensor where it should be on the outside of the maf. is my car special where i don't have it on the maf, or did it come off at one point?

bw, its an 2001 1.8t (code: aug from a passat)

thanks!
