Interior and rear backup light Led kit DIY article?
Looking for a DIY write up on how to replace all the interior and step wells/puddle wells and front and back done lights, vanity mirrors and rear backup lights.
It's pretty self explanatory. I don't have the write up, but just take the cover off the lights, gently push down and twist on the light, slide them out. Replace with LED. The dome light where the sunroof control is, grab the clear par from the front (facing the windshield) and pull down, should come off. There are no footwell lights, I ended up getting two extra LEDs. The glovebox light, push to the right on the cover, I used a mini flat head screwdriver (towards the passenger side (I believe)) and you should be able to pull it down at this point. The same can be said for the trunk lights. I used the same flathead for the vanity mirrors, theres a little indent on one of the sides when you flip the cover open to see the mirror. As for the rear dome light, I have no idea about yours, I have a '97 so mine are different. The back up lights are fun. Peel back the carpet side trim on your trunk to expose the housings. I just took the housings out. Requires an 8mm ratchet, undo the nuts, slide the housing out. Unplug it, then take off the plastic wiring harness. There should be two clips on one side, and one large on on the other. Undo the large on, then the other on the other side. The reverse light is the second from the bottom, if you have OEM housings. You know the rest. Good luck!
There actually are footwell lights, I guess it was something that changed in 98-98.5 like a few other things? Anyways they come out like all the others. If a bulb doesn't light up at first, don't freak out. LEDs are polar so just flip it
...in the footwells. If you look under the glove box or under the dash/steering wheel area they are there. They turn on when you open your door, it's possible they added them in 98.5 since there was a small "facelift" with the tail lights/side markers/etc.
Thanks a bunch, fellas!
I wanted to do them today but i wanted to snap a few before shots and videos, before i change all the lights, so i can compare the differences, between the stock lights and the LED's I'm going to install.
That means i had to wait until night time, which i did tonight and took all the pics. I'll post the before and after pics, when everything is finished.
Yeah, those footwell lights are there in my car but i have a 01 A4 B5, so your 97 A4 B5, may not have them.
Thanks for the instructions, clayson.

Just out of curiosity there are no bulb warnings when you switch from filament to LED bulbs? I, as well, am interested in switching to LEDs but I've seen that doing so will throw dead bulb warnings. However, they were in later models and have found nothing really specific to the B5's (I have a 96).
