Default Internals Parts

I am going to be replacing rods in the next two weeks with pauters which were recommended by my shop to handle the 2871r or 3071r that I am going to be putting in. Are there any other internals that I should change to hold the extra power so that I don't have to spend another $1400 to take the head off? They said the stock pistons should be good for up to about 700hp I have 81300k on my car now 99.5 1.8tqm. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks in advance.

Pauters are way over kill, just spend $350 and get some scat rods. They are more than enough for your power level. While you have the engine open, hone the cylinders and add in new rings. qedpower.com has complete rebuild sets for rod installs so you dont have to buy loose parts. Also replace the parts with true oem parts and not the oem cheaper equivolents.

Tell them to return them. No reason to spend over $400 for X beam rods when H beam are more than enough. But that is it, bolts, gaskets, bearings, and new rings.

Sounds good, what do you think about changing out the camshaft and the valves and brands that I should use? the crankshaft I'm not going to bother with now because the whole motor needs to come out. Will honing require that they take the motor out also or can they just take the head off? Thanks for you help.

A good shop can hone the cyl with the head off and engine in the car. The 3071r will still be fine on stock valves, but if you have the money to spend, some new upgraded exhaust valves will take the added heat better. As for cams, i wouldnt worry to much about those until you try to max out the turbo. A gt30 will seee better gains with them than a gt28 turbo. Catcams makes a good veriety of cams that you should consider down the line. The cams can easily be installed since the valve cover only has to come off for the install.

Both cams and valves can be bought from qedpower.com. He only sells the best stuff so you cant go wrong with w/e you choose.
