Default Just bought a '98 A4 1.8T quattro, advise me.

I picked this up just last week and it has begun to have what seems to be a misfire at lower end of rev range, lower than 2000 revs (1500-500) When cold starting it will fire idle run rough then stall. When running it seems to lose power or lag excessively within this range when the accelerator is lifted particularly. It can often semi stall and lurch at lower revs especially when under torque loads at these lower ranges, such as a Traffic light departure or hill start. Using correct fuel car serviced less than 2 months ago including computer diagnostic etc. I've only had this thing for 4 days, I think it could be so much fun if it was running properly. Any ideas, queries, comments or theories, by all means.

scan it for any error codes. Could be a number of things. plugs coil pack maf etc. Sounds almost like a maf though.

did you have a flashing CEL? if your misfiring its most likey the coil packs. also check plugs and stuff as well. 90%+ of the time if you have a flashing cel its bc one or more coil pack went bad.

no flashing cel= its not a misfire. you probably have a vacuum leak somewhere. check all the intake hoses, all the vacuum lines. check that your diverter valve isnt torn. also not a bad idea to replace your spark plugs with some nice NGK BKR7E's

I would start with a normal tune up and then check the maf and clean the sucker. Won't really know until the codes come back but I'm leaning towards coil packs or maf. Just an idea.. You darn turbos anyhow.
