so my audi a4 1998, is having some electrical problems.

first, the passenger side door does not unlock. when using the security remote unlock button and when using the master unlock button on the driver's side door. seems as though the passenger side lock is jammed or something. but it only unlocks when i pull the door handle on the door and it unlocks manually. but even then, u still can't open the door. if u unlock it that way the door opens only from the outside. very weird.

plus the sunroof opens fine but doesn't close. had to close it manually.

now does anyone know how much this would be to fix? please ballpark me a quote, so that when i ask for prices i know when im being fooled...

dont care much for the sunroof but the door situation seems very important.

also, how much would getting my audi's spark plugs changed? at a dealership?

thanks

Yikes...don't get your plugs done at the dealership...take the money you woukd spend on labor n buy a basic socket set n plug socket n change them yourself. Get a set of ngk's and depending on what motor/tuning you have done, gap them (there is tons of info on this in AF). As for your locks, check the central locking system. Someone else can back me up on this, but it might be a vacuum leak in the system. Do you have a vag-com?

+1 on diy plugs
+1 on possible vacuum leak (door locks are not electrical)
Sunroof does it try and close? or when you turn the *** nothing at all happens?

hey choc!

thanks and the sunroof just opens. i turn it any which way and it opens. it opens partly, halfway then full, which is normal but when i turn the *** to the "0" mark, which should close it. nothing happens. i hear gears turning but no movement.

as for the door lock, if it isn't electrical should i just pop my door handle off and see what's going on? i tried to lube ti today thinking it might be the case but to no avail the lock on the door doesn't want to budge. i can only unlock the door manually from the inside. then i took some needle nose pliers and pulled it up completely. which was pretty tough considering it is a door lock. seems like its stuck or jammed. because when i try and push the lock down with my finger it takes A LOT of effort. which is unusual.

A Vag-Com is a diagnostic cable that you plug into your car in conjunction with the proper software loaded on a laptop to monitor (in great detail) what exactly is going on when your car is at idle or while driving. You can buy one of these here:
http://ross-tech.com/
They are much more useful that a standard OBD-II code reader that they have at auto parts store because they are made specifically for our cars. There are tons of write-ups on AF so just use the search tool to find them. These locks are vacuum based so you probably have a leak...
