Default Just got a remote starter...

It's a Hornet 569T model. I thought it would be a good idea to get it to save me some time in the morning. I also like that it has a built in turbo timer. From reading the instructions though, it seems too complicated to install it myself, or does someone have any experience with this that they can share? Or do you think it's better to just take it somewhere to have it installed? Other than the fear of messing up the electrical system, I'd also have to always remember to leave the car in neutral.

I grabbed this pic off of a website but I can get my camera out if you want me to take some close-ups of the different connections.

See if you can return it. First it's a manual. That will be a problem I promise down the road. Second, since I've had personal experience with aftermarket starters. Do not install them unless it comes from the dealer. Lots of others have had them and they seem fine but one ruined my car and I had to unload it with all of the electrical problems after. Just saying imo .

The thing is, I didn't even buy it. My brother-in law gave it to me because he came up on two of them and he was going to put his in his automatic Pathfinder. I'm really having second thoughts about having it installed actually. I've always left my car in first for as long as I can remember so yeah, all it takes is one day to forget. Even look at my sig. ha, ha.

It's a bad idea. You have to bypass your alarm hot the whole thing but certain points. If you get one get it from Audi, but yeah the whole stick + auto start is asking for problems!

Make sure the place who installs it really know what they're doing.

A buddy of mine with a B6 had it installed and it was messing up some of the electrical of the car (window would roll down by it self, sunroof would open by it self).

If you want to do it, its really not as hard as anyone makes it sound. I did mine in a pre 99, took me a solid day, maybe another half day.(do keep in mind, i did not wire up an alarm, only the remote start while keeping the factory alarm, I also did not wire up the parking lights either, which saves some time. I also used wire taps which saved time, many say you should solder only, however that can be difficult and time consuming, I have yet to have an issue after 2 years.) Mine was made for an auto, but I easily wired it up so that the parking brake must be set for it to try to start. Just leave your car in neutral, not too hard, especially if you do it anyway. Basically you are looking at removing the steering wheel and column to get to the proper wires, obviously you need to run some to the engine bay. The 12volt .com is a great site. Unfortunately they dont have info for the 2000, but you can easily find wiring color information. I wonder whether yours is more similar to the 1999 like mine or the 2002 which they do have on that site. You can easily find wire colors, just maybe not for free for your particular year. If you decide to do it Ill be glad to help and tell you a more detailed process. Obviously you are still on the fence so let me know. BTW to reduce one scare from the above post, the window roll down issue is an easy fix. You dont have to bypass the whole alarm like people say either, the starter simply disarms it before starting, but it will still shut the car off if someone trys to drive away. Lock control still works when the car is running also. If youve done some simple wiring, and know a multimeter and everything, and have done some wrenching overall it shouldnt be a big deal.

BTW I used a viper, which I think is very similar to the hornet you have.

Is it possible to wire in a neutral safety switch in so that if the car isn't in neutral, it won't start. The old style army hummers were like that (they don't have park even though it's an auto) and they wouldn't start if it wasn't in neutral. Just an idea... Some ingenuity would go a long way with this one...

Also, check your local laws, most places it's illegal to have a remote starter on a stick (in other words, don't get caught, and be careful what shops you ask if you decide to go that route).
