Just picked up a A4 today P0304
TLDR: The old A4's have a single coil pack, how can you test to see if its bad for one cylinder?
Hey guys,
I just picked up a 1998 A4 Quad v6 from my local youth ranch for $1200, over all its a good looking car for the price and age. I pulled the codes from the computer after picking it up and had a few multi miss fire errors and such. Cleared everything out and drove for 70 ish miles and repulled everything and was only left with P0304. As far as I know this is misfire on cylinder 4, you really can only tell when you put the car under load and when you go above 3rd gear. It does the general jitering thing and loses power, if you back off a little its okay. Also the engine light flashes, Ie meaning miss fire. So having BMW's in the past you could pull an ignition coil and move it around to see if anything follows, however I think this car has one coil with 6 ports on it... I have a feeling if you move a wire to another port all hell would break lose and break the engine... So my question how can you test to see if it the hole coil pack or sparkplug wires or what ever else. If you have any questions please let me know, or if you think I should try something else.
Thanks

It really could be as simple as needing some new spark plugs. Also, I am not familiar with the V6's, but I'm pretty sure they have individual coil packs as well. I know it did on the 1.8Ts. You should be able to pull the plastic covers off and be able to determine this.
