Default K&N Air Filter Install Issues

I bought the 57I cold air intake that is supposed to fit my 96 audi a4 2.8 Quattro. but as i proceeded to install it and ran across two major issues. The first is that i have one extra harness that has two cables connected to it that sits ontop of the air box it self. i have come to believe its the IAT sensor, but it is not included in the K&N Installation Instructions and if it is not plugged in the car wont turn over. (included in pictures below of the harness). Am i correct that it is the IAT sensor? or is it something else? and because its stationed on the air box it self, what do i do with it for a cold air intake install where i have to remove the whole airbox for good?

Second, the K&N install kit gives me a mini filter for the "auxilary" or "secondary" air pump, but it is not located where the Installation Instructions say (or at least the hose coming from it isn't). where can i find the pump and hose leading from it?

the K&N instructions are to fit several types and years of Audis. and by the pictures i assume it was done on a newer model audi.

i need help, because i believe i tripped the check engine light while installing it. So i want the intake installed before i see my special mechanic this week for an a/c problem. that way he can confirm that the light was tripped accidentally and only has to turn it off after this one install.

thanks

Your IAT sensor should be on the intake manifold. The thing ontop of the airbox is the ICM Ignition control module. It just gets unbolted and set to the side wherever is secure. Your 96 doesn't have a secondary air pump, so there is no need for that extra filter. You have EGR exhaust gas recirc. instead of newer engines that have an air pump which taps into the airbox for fresh air on a cold start.

I just put the same one on my 98 2.8L this weekend and love the thing. The throttle response is definitely better and the thing adds some extra power after 3K RPM's, definitely recommended.

An intake is going to increase throtle response a tad (which does not translate to more power), maybe add a little something way up top in the rpms close to redline, but it takes away low end tq without a doubt. So you lose a little on the bottom and get a little on top. This has been my very documented experience with short ram intakes on several cars throughout the last 15 years switching back and fourth between intakes and stock airboxes. The only time I'd use an intake is if I had mods that actualy demanded it- as in a having a turbo so big that using the stock airbox is impossible. I'm not knocking you guys for it, I'm just saying... Get used to your intakes and then switch back to the airbox just for fun one day and see what you think.
