Default K03 to K04

hello everyone! i am thinking of converting my my turbo from the stock k03 to the k04. Now i dont know how good of an idea this is, some ppl say you dont need to change much when u do the exchange while others say different.

I did some research and found that most sources say you need to upgrade the exhaust and oil line?

Anyone out there that did this? share you story please and help me out a little! thanks

The KO4 is a direct swap for the KO3 and you should change the lines since you would have everything apart, and it's just good to make sure you new shiny turbo stays new and shiny.

With that said, the KO4 is a waste of money, as most here will tell you, unless you're stock turbo is shot and you NEED to replace it. Otherwise, you're wasting a lot of money for very little gain.

The next easiest thing to do is look into Elim kits which are a little more pricey, but give you much more bang for your buck, and allow you to remain looking mostly stock. They also bolt right in, however, the stock exhaust mani will really choke the turbo, and you would need to upgrade your cat (high flow or test pipe) and get a good cat back exhaust to really reap the benefits. There are a few places around that sell complete kits with with software and fuel injectors for about $2800 (http://www.ringer-racing.com/product.sc?productId=74), add on a upgraded exhaust mani and cat back and you can squeeze out about 350 HP...

Check the FAQ thread for a lot more helpful info.

that does sound good but i am trying to go for a cheaper way, plus i dont need more than 250hp, so im thinking the k04 chip and air intake would get me to 250?

That sounds about right, but the intake wouldn't be necessary. The intake is efficient enough for 250HP. GIAC makes a couple tunes for the KO4 turbo. The problem is, once you get to 250, you'll be bored with it in a month
