when i bought my audi it just came with a copied key and thats it, not of the oem keys. so i was was wondering if anybody knew some good online sites to get oem switch blade key fob and a master key if its not the same. i have a 1998 audi a4 2.8.

 

Try ebay, thats where I found my replacement. I have the same year and engine so since you dont have any of the OEM stuff, you'll probably need the FCC number, which on mine is 4D08837231D. This number has to match whatever key fob you buy or else it wont work with your car, and anything you find on ebay should have the FCC numbers listed in the item's information stuff so just match that number with an item on ebay and you should be good. After that, just search this site for key programming, when I replaced mine, I posted a thread about key programming in search of a DIY and someone replied with a link to one that worked well. A4 Cragman, how do you find out the FCC? I have one OEM key but need to get another one to reprogram the alarm/keyless entry...just need that FCC. Any help is appreciated.

 

when you pull the key apart, it is on the portion with the buttons. it should be the bottom line of numbers. that is the part number you need to get a matched remote.

 

Well said never enough, that is exactly where you find it; eurostyle, if the OEM key you have is just the valet key that isnt the remote, chances are that you wont find the FCC number, though I'm sure the dealership can pull up your year and model and tell you what it is, the number isnt specific to a certain car which is why the number I posted for the OP will work for them, because they have the exact same year and model and engine as I do and that FCC number is universal for all of a certain year or model, and probably for B5's in general, but idkfs, so yea I'm sure that the dealer could pull it up for you, or you may even try poking through a few websites that sell audi parts and see if they have a part lookup type search engine. I know such websites exist, I've been linked to a couple on this forum before for my own tech questions and where-to-buy's, and to anyone who reads this who does know a site, may they post a link for reference.
