le dreadful whine noise
AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH. i have gotten the dreadful whine noise from a dry PS pump. i've noticed it slowly getting lower since the spring. don't ask why i didn't go get some fluid before hand. i'm just glad ImTheDevil has a bottle and is willing to share. i hope i didn't seriously kill the seals because i had to drive it home for 10 min. mostly doing 50 so it wasn't too bad on the system. wish me luck 2morrow when i go get that fluid and hope it doesn't all just end up on the ground in 30 seconds.
Hiwords, you going to ImTheDevil's next weekend? I should be there if nothing gets in the way for him. I got a system administrator position to interview for in Ithaca Friday afternoon and then going to my little sisters for the weekend so I'll be out there.
i should be there with a possible upper CA job on my car.
i just put some fluid in and the noise has lessened but it still makes noise sometimes. saw a spot of something on the floor, don't know if it's PS fluid but the car is parked outside where the ground is dry so if it drips again, i'll know what it is. here's some good info for PS fluid found on germanautoparts.com site. i thought our fluid was mineral but it's synthetic.
Pentosin CHF 11S Synthetic Hydraulic Fluid - Fully synthetic hydraulic fluid for steering and central hydraulic systems. This synthetic fluid is correct for many later models which specify synthetic fluid. Temperature range -40C to +130C. Should not be mixed with ATF fluids or other power steering fluids. ***Note - this is currently sold as part # G00200 by Audi/VW as of 1990, replacing Pentosin CHF7.1 The CHF11S is correct for Audi/VW 1990 and later models, while Audi/VW 1989 and earlier models can use either 7.1 or 11S although 11S is recommended. Audi/VW states that 7.1 and 11S can be mixed if necessary but we suggest draining and flushing the system if you are changing from 7.1 to 11S***

Everything should be clear next weekend for my t-stat and coolant flush, Hiwords' CAs, and Jiggleo's detailwork. I'll make sure the garage fridge is stocked
in order to be sure there's enough time for all of it, I'll probably start my work Friday night and plan on finishing up Saturday morning. That way we can be sure to get through you guys' work as well.

cool, i probably won't have anything to do on mine but if I do it definitely won't be much. might have to grab some paint for the engine covers and the interior. We'll see if I feel like doing anything on mine when I get there.
I was thinking of an off white for the interior much like the color inside Emil's S4 and for the engine bay .... hmm don't know. I'm open for suggestions there. My only thoughts were the same off white.

Or we can drop the 8 in my car. Bring it over and I'll give you my 2.8 pump in trade
