Default leaking rear-view mirror? wtf?

The title says it all. Something is literally leaking out of my rear-view mirror. I noticed it yesterday when the entire mirror looked brown and murky, and I couldn't see ****. But today I notice that it was half-murky, half-normal... and then the next thing I know, I see something dripping. It's slightly oily, but it doesn't leave a residue... any idea on what this is? omgz do i hav an oil leek wat iz going on wif my car?! (sarcasm)

Anyways yeah, I took a pic on my cell phone but it's not on me, I left it in the car by mistake, and I'm hoping some of you know what I'm talking about so I don't have to post up a pic [8D]

I think it's a safe bet that he HAD an auto dim mirror and it broke. It's not uncommon for this to happen and the only way to fix it is to replace the mirror.

Yeah it looks like I don't have an auto-dim mirror anymore. It leaked all over my shifter, and it burned a hole in the plastic. I'm pretty pissed about it.

yeah, the liquid inside the mirror is what allows it to auto dim at night, and change back during the day. Like said above, you're only option is to replace the entire mirror...

More of a joke but I've been in a car with one and they really are amazing. You can see EVERYTHING!

My roommate got one of these:

I have it in my A4 right now and it's pretty cool you can see out of your rear doors windows (it increases visibility a lot)... I'm not really sure how I feel about it yet though. It does say Razo on it... but whatever.

Or you could just get a new mirror... lol

What did it do to the plastic? Mine is broken but the liquid has just collected at the bottom, if it is destructive then I should probably get it out asap.

That happened to my mirror too (long ago). It was fine when I brought my car in at 95K to replace the instrument panel (bad pixels on LCD) and a bad wheel bearing while still under the warrantee. When I picked up the car the next day, I pulled out of the parking lot and noticed the rearview mirror was looking like a lava lamp. I turned right around, back into the dealership and told them it wasn't like that when I brought it in. They did replace it free of charge under the same warrantee work ticket. I have my suspicion that one of the techs atValentitook a broken mirror out of his car and swapped it with my good one, or broke it while replacing my bad dash LCD and didn't say anything to that a$$hole Rich the service manager about it, so he wouldn't get in trouble. Anyway Liefer, I know what you are talking about, and I recommend checking junkyard prices and looking at the AF Classified Section to see if you can pick one up for under $20. Good Luck.
