leaking rear-view mirror? wtf?
Yup, you have to replace the mirror. Audi uses a unique mounting. You have to turn it CCW 90 degrees to remove. There was a link at www.audiworld.com/tech/int36.shmtl on how to replace them. Gentex and Donnelly make lots, you can get on Ebay but they use a tapered mount to attach to the glass.
Same thing just happened to me today. Got in the car this morning with the dimming liquid just haning out all splotchy on the mirror. Then next thing I know its dripping onto my shift **** and totally ate the finish wherever it touched! Kind of an irritant!
I already yanked the mirror off, I didn't want it leaking on anything else. I read on a Mercedes forum that Donnelly, the company that makes the mirrors, will send a free replacement.
Both my side view mirrors and my rear view mirror have gone to ****. I replaced the rear view mirror with a $75 exchange mirror that I got off of one of these forums. But the company that does that doesnt offer it for the side view mirrors. Anyway I have a safety inspection coming up and I dont want to fork out $100 per mirror. Has anybody tried to take these apart and just flush out the liquid, or just replace the mirror glass with some plastic mirror material? I guess I can give it a try and let you know how it works.
yeah mine is sort of like that, except that my whole mirror is a little brown if you really look at it, anyways i can prolly get you one for about 30 plus shipping, there's a junkyard nearby my house that has a couple a4's, they usually charge 75 for everything scince they pull it, but i got a hookup, and can get acces to parts cheaper, PM me if you're interested!!
